Supporting health through education and treatment choices

I currently practice acupuncture and naturopathy in Taynuilt, Argyll and have been trained in Shiatsu (Japanese massage), and Holistic oil massage (ITEC) I also offer Home Visits to some patients.

Acupuncture is a system of healing which originated in China around for 3000 years ago.  It was introduced to this country in the 1970's and has been growing in popularity ever since.  Acupuncture now enjoys respect and trust - both within complimentary therapies and in the general western medical profession.

It is believed that their are over 500 acupuncture points on the body.  When these points are stimulated by a needle they activate the body’s response.   This may be to reduce pain, balance hormones, stop bleeding, clear infection or provide relief from many symptoms.

Current research has shown that the needles change brain activity, suggesting that the needles stimulate the body’s natural painkillers, endorphins (similar to an opiate), which reduce pain and act as a sedative.  This is probably why acupuncture is good for promoting sleep and giving a person the feeling of well being. New theory suggests that the fascia (connective tissue) provide electrical pathways, so when a needle is inserted it triggers a response through the whole pathway. So if you put a needle in the foot it can affect the the whole channel up to the head via electrical impulses.

About me

My name is Tracey Law... I am a fully-qualified acupuncturist and naturopath, practicing naturopathic acupuncture.  I am a member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine.   I offer home visits to some patients. I have been practicing Acupuncture since qualifying with BSc (Hons) from the University of Westminster in 2003. Prior to my degree, I trained as a nurse and have continued to practice for over 30 years. I have a good understanding of both Western and Eastern medicine. I have also trained in Naturopathy in London at the College of Naturopathic Medicine. Since qualifying in 2012. I taught at the college for 5 years and was Acupuncture Course Director for 3 years.   I am also a Shiatsu (Japanese massage) therapist and I am fully-trained in Holistic oil massage. I often use a combination of treatments for effective results.

I have a long relationship with the NHS and have no problem looking on both sides of the fence when it comes to finding a path to recovery that suits my clients. Working within the healthcare sector, I believe the answers to complex health conditions will come by truly integrating complementary and orthodox treatments. NICE guidelines currently recommend acupuncture for neck and back pain.

Sometimes acupuncture alone is enough to reduce inflammation and pain. Often a dietary change may be recommended and use of supplements or transdermal oil, such as magnesium, which is nature’s natural muscle relaxant.

Support for Women

I am increasingly interested in women of a certain age who are moving into peri-menopause and beyond. This time of life brings with it some challenges...

There is a three-point axis balancing women's hormones. Our adrenal gland, thyroid gland and sex hormones. They should work in harmony. This, however, is often not the case.

I see women who's work / life balance is under stress - and stress sets off a chain reaction. Stress coupled with diminishing sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone can lead to symptoms such as:

  • Tendency to gain weight, especially around the waist - and inability to lose it;

  • High Frequency of the flu and other respiratory diseases where symptoms tend to last longer than usual;

  • Irritability;

  • Blood sugar fluctuations;

  • Tendency to tremble when under pressure;

  • Anxiety;

  • Depression;

  • Reduced sex drive;

  • Light-headedness when rising from a supine position;

  • Brain fog;

  • PMT;

  • Lack of energy in the afternoon;

  • Reliance on coffee to get the day started;

  • Craving for sweet salty and fatty food;

  • Chronic pain of unknown origin.

Symptoms can be so varied that it would be easy to be mistaken into treating a symptom (such as knee pain or fatigue) without exploring the bigger internal picture.

Hormones change slowly in the body and therefore it is easy for women to experience one symptom, and then another and then another, without realising they are linked.

Testimonials

"Thank you very much for your email and although I was new to your practice, I very much felt at ease with the experience and energy you bought to your acupuncture sessions and it made me feel very assured that I was in good hands".

“I am so glad that I found Tracey, expert acupuncturist. She brings a wealth of holistic experience to Oban. For starters, she is a very accomplished acupuncturist and holistic care practitioner. She has an expert understanding of diet and lifestyle so is able to look at the whole person taking a full history. Tracey is both professional and personable. You feel she cares about your recovery and well-being. Highly recommended for whatever the condition.”

Donna

“I went to Tracey with symptoms of stress and anxiety which were mainly caused by menopause, I have had a course of treatments and can definitely say that I feel so much better and able to face my new project in a good frame of mind and with energy. Throughout the treatment course we have measured how I am getting on and tweaked the treatment accordingly based on my current needs.

Tracey has a sympathetic no nonsense approach and I felt very assured and safe in her hands.  I have recommended her to others and keep my own treatment topped up as I find it really successful for my immunity as well. Extremely  knowledgeable and excellent at what she does.”
